A brief history of coin rings
The history of coin rings goes back to the beginning of the 1940s. Legend has it that they were first produced by American front-line soldiers during the Second World War, who hammered the edges of their coins with their spoons until they widened. They then drilled a hole in the center of the coin to create the ring shape. The spoons were later replaced by hammers, which naturally simplified the process. The modern, two-sided coin ring was probably created in the 1950s. Over time, more sophisticated tools and methods were developed, which further simplified the process and led to the high-quality coin ring products we know today. Coin rings from Münzring-Manufaktur are of course manufactured using state-of-the-art tools.

Coin rings – Material
Coin rings can be made from all metals and alloys, provided that suitable tools are available. However, silver is the preferred material. Silver is not only a high-quality metal, but can also be excellently processed due to its low hardness. In addition, it does not cause any skin reactions, such as copper. Hard metals such as bronze, nickel or brass are rather unsuitable, but are occasionally also processed. Rings made from medium-sized silver coins are ideal, as these can usually be reduced to women’s sizes as well as expanded to men’s sizes.
Coin ring – Production
The selected coin is first cleaned, punched and filed. The coin is then shaped at high heat using conical bodies and various types of presses. This is followed by size adjustment using a ring stretcher and a finish in the form of patination or a high-gloss polish. Coin rings from Münzring-Manufaktur meet the highest standards.
